#MoonScanner on IRC — built-in client, 42 commands, and how to join
MoonScanner broadcasts its free alert feed to #MoonScanner on the Rizon IRC network. The channel is also a live community — you can chat, query the MoonBot for ticker data, and get real-time market updates without leaving the app.
Three things worth covering: the built-in client, how to connect from outside, and what the MoonBot can do.
The built-in client (all tiers)
MoonScanner has a full IRC client baked into the app. On every tier — Free, Pro, Elite — launching the app auto-connects you to #MoonScanner. No setup, no configuration, no account to create. The IRC panel sits in the app alongside the scanner table, so alerts, chat, and bot responses all flow in the same interface as the rest of your research.
The in-app client is fully two-way: you can read, chat, and run bot commands just like an external IRC client. When you post a message, everyone in the channel sees it — whether they're inside the app or connected via HexChat, mIRC, the web, or anything else.
Connecting from outside the app
Sometimes you want to watch the channel without MoonScanner open — overnight, from a second machine, from your phone, or before you've even installed the app. That's fine. Any IRC client works.
Fastest path, browser only:
- Go to kiwiirc.com/nextclient
- Pick any nickname
- Server:
irc.rizon.net
- Channel:
#MoonScanner
- Click Start
You're in. Takes 30 seconds. No install, no account.
If you prefer a proper client:
Any Rizon-compatible IRC client will work. Connection details:
Server: irc.rizon.net
Port: 6667 (plain) or 6697 (SSL)
Channel: #MoonScanner
Popular options:
- HexChat — free, Windows/Linux, the most common starting point
- mIRC — Windows, shareware, the classic
- weechat or irssi — Linux/macOS terminal clients, power-user friendly
- Colloquy or Textual — macOS GUI clients
The MoonBot commands
The channel is also home to MoonBot, which runs continuously and supports around 42 commands you can use from inside the app or any external IRC client. Anyone in the channel can use any of them — no registration, no tier gate. Just type the command in the channel.
The full command reference is below. To see it live in the channel at any time, just type !help and the bot will PM you the full list (it doesn't flood the channel).

The auto-broadcast schedule
Even if the channel looks quiet, MoonBot runs a schedule of automatic broadcasts through the day. Knowing the schedule helps you recognize what you're looking at:
- Every 30 minutes — full market status (US indices, VIX, global, crypto)
- Every 15 minutes — MoonBot reminder with current stats
- :05 past the hour — top news rundown (formatted block of best headlines)
- Between broadcasts — single news headlines stream in as they arrive
- 9:00 AM ET (weekdays) — pre-market gappers
- 9:03 AM ET (weekdays) — today's earnings reporters
- 9:06 AM Monday — FDA catalysts for the week
- 9:30 AM ET (weekdays) — market open announcement
- During market hours — sector rotation, squeeze watch, volume leaders, hot stocks
- 4:00 PM ET (weekdays) — market close announcement
Scan-detected alerts (volume spikes, insider buys, options flow, etc.) come through whenever the scanner catches them — not on a schedule.
Common questions
"Do I need to register a nickname?"
No. Read and chat without registering. If you want a persistent nickname that stays yours across reconnects (and keeps your watchlist attached), Rizon's NickServ supports it — type /msg NickServ HELP REGISTER in any Rizon channel. Totally optional.
"My watchlist disappeared."
Watchlists are tied to your IRC nickname. If you joined under a different nick, the bot won't recognize you. Register with NickServ or always use the same nickname.
"Why does !help not show anything in the channel?"
It PMs you the full list to keep the channel from getting flooded. Check your private messages tab — the bot will send you the full reference there.
"Can I run commands in private messages to the bot?"
Yes. If you /msg MoonBot !hot the bot will reply to you privately instead of posting in the channel. Useful if you want to do lookups without the channel seeing.
"Can't connect to Rizon."
Corporate networks and some VPNs block IRC on port 6667. Try port 6697 (SSL) instead, or use the Kiwi web client which runs over HTTPS.
"The in-app IRC panel isn't connecting."
Usually a network block or firewall. Check your app logs for connection errors and open a bug report with the details.
"Is the Discord feed different from IRC?"
Discord mirrors the alert feed, but community conversation and interactive bot commands happen on IRC. If you want to run commands, you need to be in IRC (or the in-app client). Discord is read-only for most users.
One thing worth knowing
The #MoonScanner channel is public. Anything you post is visible to everyone in the channel and may be logged by users running their own IRC loggers. Standard IRC etiquette: don't share account details, don't pump tickers, don't post anything you wouldn't want quoted.
